Gerardo and Alberto: A Journey of Passion, Tradition, and Friendship

Gerardo and Alberto first met in London in 2003. Young, driven, and united by a shared passion for Italian cuisine, they quickly formed a strong bond while working in various restaurants across the city. Long shifts and shared sacrifices fueled their dream of bringing authentic Italian flavours to the world. Gerardo’s love for food and hospitality was shaped by his upbringing in Senerchia, a small village in Salerno, Italy. From a young age, he was immersed in the aromas and traditions of Italian cooking, where food was more than sustenance, it was about family, connection, and celebration. After moving to London in 2003, Gerardo refined his craft, deepening his commitment to authentic Italian cuisine. Alberto, equally dedicated to Italian culinary traditions, shared Gerardo’s vision. In 2018, after years of hard work, they opened Made in Italy in Chester, a restaurant born from their love for Italian food and culture. Every dish tells a story, crafted from family recipes using the finest ingredients, many sourced directly from Italy, such as San Marzano tomatoes, creamy buffalo mozzarella, and hand-rolled pasta. In 2024, their journey expanded when Marco, Gerardo’s brother and Alberto’s lifelong friend, joined the venture. Together, they launched La Cantina, a space celebrating Italian wines, honest flavours, and warm hospitality. Bringing Italy to Hoole Today, Made in Italy and La Cantina are more than just restaurants. They are the result of a lifelong journey of friendship, family, and a deep love for Italian culture. Located in the heart of Hoole, these establishments offer intimate dining experiences where relaxed ambience and authentic flavours transport guests to the Mediterranean. For Gerardo, Alberto, and Marco, every dish is a celebration of their roots and the traditions passed down through generations. Whether enjoying a classic Margherita pizza or a hearty plate of lasagna, each plate reflects their dedication to authenticity and their mission to share the essence of Italy with the local community.
